Track limits have been an issue in Formula 1 for years. Therefore, solutions are always being found to make sure that drivers stay within the track limits. Simone Berra, the chief engineer at Pirelli, thinks a solution used at the Dutch circuit Zandvoort may be the general solution going forward.

People often complain about the track limits. In Austria, track limits are always often exceeded, so a solution was provided. With the creation of small gravel traps, the FIA made an attempt to solve the problem, but still, some exceeded track limits.

'Zandvoort possibly solution to track limits'

Berra thinks an example should be taken from Zandvoort, he told Racefans.net and others: "We think that going in the direction to improve the gravel trap is the right direction for the track limits,” he told media including RaceFans. “Probably the best solution, and it’s something that I know that the teams are speaking with FIA and FIA is speaking with the teams, is trying to use a solution like we have in Zandvoort where they glue the gravel. That could be a good solution because you don’t bring gravel into the racing line." Berra said.

The Italian continued: “I don’t know if we will go in this direction, but that could be a possible introduction for the future. Anyway, the FIA we know are going to introduce gravel traps for the future more often because it’s working, honestly, and it makes sense.” Concluded the Pirelli engineer.
