Albers gets 'tired' of difference in calibre between Verstappen and Norris
- Jeroen Immink
For the past few races, it looked like the McLaren had a much better car than the Red Bull. Yet Max Verstappen manages to run out ahead of Lando Norris. Former Formula 1 driver Christijan Albers is therefore also critical of Norris, citing the difference with Verstappen.
Albers critical of Norris after Belgian GP
For Norris, the Belgian Grand Prix was the perfect opportunity to catch up with Verstappen in the driver standings. But with the Dutchman ending up on track ahead of Norris through an undercut and George Russell's disqualification, Verstappen took P4 and Norris P5. After the race, Norris apologised, much to Albers' annoyance. "What I get tired of is him continually apologising in front of the camera. He says: 'The car was fantastic but this and that didn't go well.' That's just a difference in calibre," Albers reveals in the Telegraaf's Formula 1 podcast.
Dedication makes Verstappen better than Norris according to Albers
Later in the podcast, Albers elaborates on the difference between Verstappen and Norris. "Here you can clearly see a difference between Verstappen and Norris. This is going to be harsh and a lot of people will disagree with me. But the difference is the dedication and perseverance. Max leaves more for that. We know what he does and how he fills his life. And you notice that Norris sides more with life, which is okay. I think if you focus maximally on your job, you leave a lot out. And you also see Norris showing up more often at parties and things like that," Albers added.
