Carlos Sainz's much anticipated announcement broke on Monday, where he revealed he would be moving to Williams for 2025. Whilst Sainz confirmed his future, Sergio Perez's was in doubt, as Red Bull met to discuss his place within the team. In other news, the Mexican media were critical of Perez for his performance in Belgium, whilst the British reacted to George Russell's disqualification.

Sainz signs with Williams

Sainz and Williams broke the news on Monday afternoon that a multi-year contract had been signed. This means the Spaniard will race with the team beyond the new regulations in '26.  “I am very happy to announce that I will be joining Williams Racing from 2025 onwards. It is no secret that this year’s driver market has been exceptionally complex for various reasons and that it has taken me some time to announce my decision. However, I am fully confident that Williams is the right place for me to continue my F1 journey and I am extremely proud of joining such a historic and successful team, where many of my childhood heroes drove in the past and made their mark on our sport," Sainz revealed.

Perez's future debated

After another somewhat difficult weekend in Belgium came D-Day for Perez, as Red Bull met to discuss whether he would remain with the team. Team boss Christian Horner and Marko are meeting in England today to discuss whether Perez has sufficiently demonstrated that he deserves the seat at Red Bull. They face many potential options, including keeping Perez, who signed a two year extension with the team recently, or replace him. Both Daniel Ricciardo and Liam Lawson have been linked to the seat.

Mexican media react

Back home, the Red Bull Racing driver cannot walk the streets unchallenged. he is approached for an autograph or a selfie everywhere. But the enthusiasm seems to be waning. After another weekend in Belgium, in which Perez could hardly convince, the sentiment towards the driver is changing.  Thus, Esto - the country's leading sports outlet - headlined in big letters, "Checo Perez, from bad to worse." The medium pointed out that although Max Verstappen's teammate started on the front row of the grid, he ended up crossing the line in eighth place. Perez moved up one place a few hours later as original winner George Russell was disqualified.  The comments then cited that Perez "keeps tumbling" and he dropped back from second to eighth, which was characterised as "a reflection of how his last few races have been. This makes it nine consecutive Grand Prix without a podium finish'. Although Esto did add that Perez was not helped by Red Bull's 'poor strategy'.

British media can't believe it

The British media have sensed George Russell's heartbreak as he saw victory fall through his fingers over 90 minutes after the chequered flag dropped. The British media believe Russell's luck is turning from bad to worse after a series of heartbreaks in recent weeks.  The Guardian decided to assess the full spectrum of emotions for Russell after the Belgian Grand Prix. "George Russell ran the full gamut of emotion from euphoria to heartbreak in what must have been the most painful race of his career," wrote The Guardian in their report. "As the slings and arrows go, even fortune herself might feel this went beyond the outrageous."
