Hamilton gets emotional ahead of final Mercedes races: 'Changed everything'
The partnership between Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes will come to an end after the 2024 season. It's been the most successful driver and team partnership Formula 1 has ever seen, but all good things must end. The Brit will be joining Ferrari for the 2025 season after making the move before the 2024 season got underway. As his time at Mercedes comes to an end, an emotional Hamilton is hugely thankful for the team that brought him so much success.
Emotional Hamilton "couldn't be more grateful to Mercedes"
The seven-time World Champion has indeed had life-changing results at Mercedes, winning 83 Grands Prix, 151 podiums, eight constructors' titles, and six World Championship titles since joining the German team in 2013. It's seen him become one of the greatest drivers the sport has ever seen, breaking records which may never be broken again.
"I couldn't be more proud of the people that I work with in this team," started Hamilton, speaking to GPblog and others at the Belgian Grand Prix. "I couldn't be more grateful to Mercedes. They've changed my life. They supported me at 13 years of age and then given me the chance to be an F1 driver for them and put their faith behind me for all these years."
But the 39-year-old is also hugely thankful for the resilience of his team after fighting their way through a very tough stretch during 2022 and 2023, allowing them to bring themselves back to the front of the grid for the 2024 season, giving Hamilton the perfect opportunity to finish his Mercedes career with some more Grand Prix wins.
"We’ve gone through difficult times. There are Good values. For us to go through the difficult phase and now fight for the wins, I’m proud of the work George and I are doing with the team. I'm really excited about the next few months that we have ahead of us," concluded the Brit.
