Former Haas driver favours Larson over Verstappen: 'Not close to his level'
- Nicole Mulder
The debate has become quite heated in the United States: who is better, Max Verstappen or Kyle Larson? Several NASCAR drivers have backed Larson after he claimed he could have the Formula 1 driver. So did NASCAR champion Kevin Harvick.
NASCAR drivers get involved in Verstappen discussion
After recently winning the Knoxville Nationals title for the third time, Larson stated that he is a "better all-round driver" than Verstappen. The NASCAR Cup Series champion declared when asked if he felt he had to beat the Dutchman to be considered the best driver in the world.
His statements sparked discussions in which several NASCAR drivers also got involved. Harvick, who has competed against Larson in the past, does think he knows which of the two drivers would come out on top. "The thing I can tell you is that if Kyle Larson went to drive Max Verstappen's car, in one or two days, he'd be damn close to being as fast as Max Verstappen, but there is no way Max Verstappen comes over here and does that in a stock car," he firmly asserts in his own Happy Harvick podcast.
"Max is extremely talented and very, very, very good at what he does for his discipline and I heard him talk about drivers being specialised in their discipline, but that is not Kyle Larson. Kyle Larson can go out and drive anything, he is very good at his discipline, but he has got multiple disciplines, and we saw what he did in an Indycar. I truly believe that Max would do okay, but he's not going to do anything close to what Kyle Larson does," Harvick's clear verdict said.
