Marko announcement doesn't bother Ricciardo: 'I know what I can do'
- Jeroen Immink
Helmut Marko has recently indicated that Liam Lawson will, no matter what, get a seat in 2025. The only question is whether that will be at Red Bull or VCARB. VCARB driver Daniel Ricciardo has since commented on Lawson's arrival and is confident that he will still be in Formula 1 in 2025.
"Next year he will take a seat in one of our cars. A decision will be made in September," Marko revealed. After a handful of impressive races last season for AlphaTauri, Lawson has put himself in a good position. Red Bull no longer seem to be able to ignore the New Zealander, so he can start getting ready for 2025.
Ricciardo wants 2025 seat
Once he arrived at Zandvoort, Ricciardo responded to Marko's comments. "It's ok," the driver nicknamed Honey Badger informed. "I still know that performance is my best friend. I do what I know I can do and what I’m capable of, then I think it puts me in a very good position to obviously stay somewhere in the [Red Bull] family for next year," the Australian said.
Despite Ricciardo not being consistent this season, the Australian remains confident that he will still be in Formula 1 next year. "So then what that means for me, as I said, probably a little bit unknown, but if I perform, then I'm sure they'll find a spot for me somewhere."
Ricciardo praises Lawson
In doing so, Ricciardo reacted sportingly to Lawson's arrival in Formula 1. The 35-year-old believes that it is more than right for Red Bull to give Lawson the chance. "Speaking of Liam. I got to see him drive the car last year and I do think he did a great job. I do think he is worthy of a seat on the grid. In a way I'm happy for him. If he is guaranteed a seat next year, then I think that's good because he is a deserving driver," Ricciardo said.
