Is Ricciardo getting tired by Marko's comments? 'Impossible to keep up'
Helmut Marko does not shy away from the microphone. The external advisor for Red Bull Racing is known to publicly apply plenty of pressure on the drivers at Red Bull and VCARB through messages in the press. For example, Marko recently revealed that Liam Lawson will get a seat in 2025, seemingly at the expense of Daniel Ricciardo or Sergio Perez. The Australian has said that he can't keep up with the amount of comments.
Marko likes to apply pressure, and many drivers have felt the brunt of it in the past. However, often, in the Red Bull Junior Team, the drivers are a lot younger than Ricciardo. This is where he feels he has an advantage. In the paddock ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, GPblog asked Ricciardo whether or not he is getting tired of Marko's comments and pressure.
"No. I think I'm probably used to it. This [speaking to the media] is a lot of the time when I hear it. When you're young, you're a bit more curious like 'oh what do people think of me? What do people say?' At some point, you realise," Ricciardo said before acknowledging that he simply can't keep up with all of the comments.
"Maybe now the weekend is busier, the sport is more popular, there is so much more being said that it's impossible to keep up with everything. I have to focus on myself, and performance is everything. What matters is my hands and feet in the cockpit," Ricciardo replied.
Marko sheds light on the internal situation with Marko
But what is it like behind the scenes in the Red Bull family? Has Marko said anything to Ricciardo directly, rather than just in the press? "I haven't had unreasonable pressure. I haven't had the hand on the shoulder in a room and a 'hey do this or else'. But I know what's required. Maybe this tough talk doesn't need to be had because I've known Marko a long time. We know what's required. Maybe what he says in the media is maybe a bit more heightened but I don't feel anything additional from him," Ricciardo replied to GPblog.
