Lewis Hamilton was able to find some pace that was missing from Mercedes in Zandvoort last weekend,  taking P1 in the second free practice session at the Italian Grand Prix. Hamilton was able to make use of the soft tyre running around Monza to beat Norris by the tiniest of margins, with the McLaren driving coming just +0.003 seconds behind the seven-time world champion.

Behind the two Brits was Carlos Sainz, with Ferrari hoping that the multiple updates they have brought to their home race will lift them up the order come qualifying time tomorrow. Norris teammate Oscar Piastri finished in P4, and Charles Leclerc rounded out a top five that was covered by just a tenth-and--half.

George Russell, who had limited running after his car was quickly fixed by Mercedes mechanics after Andrea Kimi Antonelli's FP1 crash, took P6, with Nico Hulkenberg, Daniel Ricciardo, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll rounding out the top ten. For Red Bull, it was a session to forget, as Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez could not break into the top ten and finished P14 and P15, respectively.

After Antonelli's crash in FP1 earlier in the day, there was another red flag that delayed free practice around 'The Temple of Speed', this time because of Kevin Magnussen. Like Antonelli, the Danish driver had a slap of oversteer hit his car, but this time it occurred at the second of the Lesmo corners. The Haas spun out across the gravel and slammed into the barriers.
