F1 Today | Expensive Monaco crash for Leclerc and Verstappen's ideal lineup

It's a rare off weekend for Formula 1 so drivers have returned home. But it's mixed feelings. Charles Leclerc had an awkward crash in Monaco and might feel a bit embarrassed. Elsewhere, Oliver Bearman will be over the moon as Haas have officially confirmed his participation in next weekend's Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Leclerc crashed in Monaco

Charles Leclerc experienced an embarrassing moment in his hometown of Monaco. The Ferrari driver, who only last week managed to win at the Italian Grand Prix, drove his very expensive Ferrari Purosangue into the back of another car around one of the most famous corners in the F1 calendar. 

Things went wrong for Leclerc at the hairpin in Monte Carlo. The Monegasque drove into the back of a stationary car. Fortunately, the damage was not extensive, and he was able to continue driving his Ferrari. Check out the footage here.

Verstappen wants to be teammates with Alonso

Max Verstappen has previously said that he would like to take part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans one day. As a result, the Red Bull driver was asked to come up with his ideal teammates for the event. He mentioned his father Jos Verstappen, but acknowledged that the older Dutchman wasn't so keen. This is Verstappen's ideal line up. 

Bearman appointed by Haas as banned Magnussen's replacement

Oliver Bearman has been confirmed as Haas' replacement for the banned Kevin Magnussen at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Bearman stepped in to replace Carlos Sainz at Ferrari earlier this year in Saudi Arabia and has been called upon again. This time, he will drive for Haas who he will race for full-time in 2025.

Shortly after the Italian Grand Prix, GPblog already learned that Bearman would in principle be the replacement for the suspended Magnussen in the Azerbaijan GP. The Dane received two penalty points on his license in Monza for causing a collision with Pierre Gasly, for which he also received a 10-second time penalty. This brought the total number of penalty points for Magnussen to 12 and that will land him a suspension. Team boss Ayao Komatsu explained why he selected Bearman.

Alpine slammed for engine decision: 'That's anti-marketing' 

During his final Grand Prix weekend as Alpine's team principal, Bruno Famin confirmed that the French Formula 1 team intend to buy their power units rather than develop their own. This decision has been slammed by former F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg.
