Pirelli showcase these key factors for the F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix
Pirelli has announced which tyre compounds will be used at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend in Baku. The F1 teams will receive the three softest compounds in the Pirelli range for the street circuit event. Baku will host the 17th round of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship.
It could be a landmark weekend for Formula 1. Red Bull Racing has led the Constructors' World Championship since the Spanish Grand Prix in May 2022, but McLaren could overtake them. They need to outscore their Austrian rivals by nine points to end their streak at the top of the table. Meanwhile, Lando Norris is trying to bridge a 62-point gap to Max Verstappen, and his Woking-based team hinted that he might get more help from his teammate Oscar Piastri with just eight rounds remaining.
Pirelli tyre compounds in Baku
It seems that Red Bull and McLaren are preparing for a battle that will last until the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December. But next up on the list is the event in Baku. For that, Pirelli has chosen the three softest tyre compounds in the range: the C5 will be the soft tyre, the C4 will be the medium tyre, and the C3 will act as the hard tyre.
Pirelli is predicting a one-stop race. The Italian tyre suppliers suggest that the evolution of the track could play an important role. This is because the street circuit is usually open to regular traffic. The race usually takes place in the spring but has been pushed into the second half of the calendar for the 2024 season. It is warmer in Baku during September.
