Ricciardo offers Alonso advice on 'privilege' of working with Newey
Aston Martin revealed the highly anticipated news that the successful technical director Adrian Newey will join their team in 2025. Reacting to the news, Daniel Ricciardo called upon his previous experience working with the technical director at Red Bull and gave advice to Fernando Alonso about how best to work with Newey.
Despite leaving Red Bull before being able to drive the completely dominant Red Bull car of the 2023 season, Ricciardo has had his fair share of driving Newey-designed cars.
Ricciardo calls working with Newey 'a privilege'
The Australian reminisces on his time spent working with Newey at Red Bull and emphasises the value he brings to a team. “I enjoyed my time with him and it was just a privilege when I joined Red Bull in 2014 and to drive one of his cars, work alongside him. His level of expertise in his field, I would normally just feedback things. It's not that I can stand toe-to-toe with him and speak his language, if you know what I mean, but it was just to try and obviously collaborate in those years and give what I could. Then let him work his magic.”
When asked what advice Ricciardo could offer to Fernando Alonso and the Aston Martin team about working with Newey, Ricciardo kept his cards close to his chest, saying, “I don’t think I could give much advice to the most experienced guy on the grid... it was just obviously a pleasure and a privilege and obviously I don't need to give Fernando any advice, but I'm sure it'll be an enjoyable experience.”
