Christian Horner finds McLaren's approach odd

Horner has one clear goal for Red Bull: 'Help Verstappen against Norris'

15 September at 16:56

Following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Christian Horner remained clear about team orders at Red Bull Racing. The British team principal underlined that they will continue to help Max Verstappen, while the British team principal also doesn't understand why McLaren were delaying their decision to support their "bigger asset", Lando Norris.

According to Horner, his team's approach will not change, despite the recent disappointing results and losing the lead to McLaren in the constructors' championship. ''No, every team is different. Our rules of engagement are very clear and what the focus to the end of the year is,'' he stated to GPblog and others.

Red Bull's focus is on the drivers' championship

Now, the British team principal has once again declared that the team's focus is helping Max Verstappen to win his fourth drivers' title. '' We've got a driver that's fighting for a world championship. It's a team sport, so it's very clear that Checo’s job is there to support Max to the end of the year.''

On the other hand, Horner remains confused about McLaren's decision to only now being more biased towards Lando Norris. ''I think that you can put yourself in all kinds of... Different teams operate different ways. When you've got an asset like Max Verstappen, you don't make him a number two driver. Lando Norris, they're paying five times what they paid Oscar. So I would assume that he would be their number one driver, or their biggest asset. So therefore, the confusion comes when you're not upfront from the beginning of what your plans are,'' he concluded in Azerbaijan.
