Championship contenders discuss Ricciardo's fastest lap: 'Good on him!'
Daniel Ricciardo pitted for a third time at the end of the Singapore Grand Prix for a new set of soft tyres. On this fresh rubber, the Australian set the fastest lap of the race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, which took a point from Lando Norris. That may help Max Verstappen, as every point counts in this championship battle. Both championship contenders spoke about Ricciardo's fastest lap in the post-race press conference.
Norris: 'I can't have them all'
Gianpiero Lambiase, Verstappen's race engineer, told the Dutchman after the race his 'old mate' (Ricciardo) secured the fastest lap. This meant that Norris took seven points out of his championship rival in Singapore instead of eight. The Brit spoke about Ricciardo's lap in the press conference. "I know, nothing I can do. Good on him. I did my best at trying to get the quickest lap when the tyres were in good condition in the middle. But I can't have them all," Norris began.
The McLaren driver secured the fastest lap last time out in Baku, earning an extra point. "I've done my best trying to get the quickest laps over the last few weekends, and I've been able to get them more often than not. But I can't beat a guy on a hard tyre in the middle of a stint beat on new soft tyres. That’s just life." Norris said.
Verstappen's short and sweet reaction
Verstappen was once again quiet in the press conference after his recent fallout with the FIA for swearing. "I mean, everyone can decide when they want to do a fast lap or not." The Dutchman simply explained before putting down his microphone.
