Lawson sees his F1 'dream come true': 'This is a huge opportunity at VCARB'

Liam Lawson reacts to F1 opportunity at vcarb after ricciardo departure

Liam Lawson is grateful to have the opportunity to race in Formula 1 for the rest of the 2024 season. The New Zealander was confirmed as Daniel Ricciardo's replacement at Visa Cash App RB on Thursday. He explains that it is a "dream come true."

Lawson had a cameo appearance in the 2023 Formula 1 season but had to give the seat back to Ricciardo once the Australian recovered from his injury. This time around, the seat is officially his until the end of the season, and he has the chance to impress Helmut Marko and the rest of the team in the remaining six Grands Prix.

Lawson had to be patient. In 2024, he travelled around the world, being on standby in case Ricciardo or Yuki Tsunoda at VCARB or Max Verstappen or Sergio Perez at Red Bull had to miss the event. That did not happen this year, but the 22-year-old will get to showcase his talent until the end of the season.

Lawson thanks Red Bull for the opportunity

That wait is now coming to an end. Starting at the United States Grand Prix, Lawson gets to prove himself. "Very excited to say that I'll be driving in the car from Austin," he said on X in a self-recorded video. "It's obviously a massive opportunity, a dream come true for me so, I want to say thank you to the team for this opportunity. I want to say thank you to you guys [the fans] for the support as well. It's a lot of work ahead, but I'm looking forward to getting into it and I'll see you guys in Austin."

Lawson has a contract until the end of the current season. There has been no confirmation whether he will be on the grid for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
