Colapinto catches Marko's eye: "Definitely be someone in the future"
Christian Horner has been open about the fact Red Bull is continuing to explore their options for 2026. One potential name on the cards could be Franco Colapinto. The Argentinian has continued to impress after he replaced Logan Sargeant at Williams. Helmut Marko has explained.
Both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez still have contracts for 2026, but the team are still deciding their options for that year. Christian Horner has also revealed that the team is looking within its own Junior Team, and beyond.
Is Colapinto an option for Red Bull's team?
Another notable name he mentioned at the time was George Russell. However, Franco Colapinto is also making a good impression and has already been mentioned at the Austrian team.
"He is with the Williams team," Marko stated in conversation with Motorsport-Total. "He will definitely be someone in the future. What he showed was very, very good, both in Baku and in Singapore. I cited that as an example."
Marko concluded that juniors from Formula 2 definitely have the potential to enter Formula 1. In 2024, Oliver Bearman, Kimi Andrea Antonelli and Jack Doohan will all make their debut after progressing from the junior class. For Marko, drivers must have at least three to five years of experience if they wish to enter a top team.
