Alonso pins hopes on Newey: 'Need to shake things up in 2025 too'

By signing Newey, it ensures Aston Martin can use the designer's knowledge and other F1 teams can't. Newey will start work in March 2025 and will be able to influence the 2026 car. In 2026, new rules and regulations are introduced.

Alonso is hopeful about Newey's arrival, but at the same time realises that it is still some time away. The two-time world champion hopes that his F1 team can make progress even in the shorter term. "I think 2026 is in our heads for everyone at Aston and the biggest hope with Adrian coming, Enrico [Cardile] and some other names. So this is going to be great, and the future looks bright, but 2025, we need to shake things a little bit. I mean, it's not good enough what we are doing right now, and for 2025, we need to change the pace," the 43-year-old Spaniard stated.

Teammate Stroll is also very much looking forward to the arrival of Newey and Enrico Cardile, who comes over from Ferrari. "I am looking forward to working with Adrian. He’s the most successful person to build cars in the history of the sport. And I think it's just a very exciting chapter for Aston Martin. Not only Adrian, but other people that are coming on board. And I think we're growing into a team that is setting up for a very bright future," said Stroll.

The 25-year-old Canadian thinks it is vital to bring someone with so much experience to the team and, therefore, sees Newey as the perfect leader of the technical team at Silverstone. "Yeah, very important. I think it's important that we have a leader and we have direction on what we're doing, with a vision and a structure that gets us to another level. And that's what we're in the process of doing," Stroll concluded.
