Toto Wolff previews US Grand Prix 2024 Mercedes

Mercedes ready with updates for COTA: 'Also a guide for 2025'

Mercedes could not enter the current four-week period without a Grand Prix as positively as they did the summer break. After the team have returned to Zandvoort, the Germans could only achieve a single podium, when George Russell finished in P3 after Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez crashed out in Baku. Team principal and CEO Toto Wolff expects a tough challenge at COTA, but hopes Mercedes will be able to tackle that successfully, the team report.

The Austrian understands that it is unlikely for his team to move up in the standings from P4 in the constructors' champion, but underlines that the upcoming weekends will still be important for the team. Especially given that Lewis Hamilton will leave Mercedes, as his 12th season with the Silver Arrows will come to an end once the chequered flag is waved in Abu Dhabi.

"Although we are not in contention for the championships, there is still plenty to fight for and the opportunity to create a few highlights along the way. We want to end this year as strongly as possible, build momentum for 2025, and bid farewell to Lewis in the best way possible," Wolff said.

Final updates for Mercedes

With the autumn break, Mercedes have also have an update package ready for the Circuit of the Americas. "We have therefore been hard at work since Singapore analysing our performance and how we can improve. We bring our final update package of the season to Texas and our aim is to close the gap to the front. It will also provide useful information that will help guide our development direction for 2025."

He continued: "The Sprint format returns this weekend, and we will have to be at our best to introduce the update package effectively. The Circuit of the Americas is a fantastic track but one that caught us out last year. Its high-speed layout, combined with its bumpy surface, make it a challenge for both the car and driver. It is one we are looking forward to."
