McLaren warn Red Bull with 'strengthening' message ahead of US Grand Prix

With a 41-point advantage in the Constructors' Championship, McLaren is perhaps the favourite to end Red Bull's run of titles. However, Max Verstappen has a 52-point lead over Lando Norris in the Drivers' Championship. With just six Grands Prix and three sprint races remaining, it seems a tall order for Norris.

Can Norris beat Verstappen in the F1 World Championship?

Stella previously suggested McLaren would deploy some team orders to help Norris defeat Verstappen. Former F1 World Champion Jenson Button, among others, believes the team need to be much stronger in this department. Either way, McLaren need a fast car and they will apply some upgrades this weekend in Austin.

“After a busy few weeks back at the factory to consolidate and strengthen our championship campaign, we now head to Austin for the first of two triple headers. We’re only six races away from the end of the season but there are still a lot of points on the table," Stella said acknowledging the likes of Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari will bring some upgrades as well.

"Many teams will be bringing updates in these final races, so we expect some close competition, but as always, we keep our heads down, focus on ourselves and look to consistently deliver points in our quest for both titles," he added.

Both Norris and Piastri expressed their excitement about returning to Formula 1 racing after a brief off period. Norris expressed he has worked hard at the McLaren Technology Centre (MCT). “I’ve spent some time back at the MTC in the sim preparing for the upcoming triple header. The next two months are going to be incredibly busy, but also exciting. I’m ready to get back in the car, so let’s show Texas what we can do," Norris said.

Piastri wants to continue the good run of results. “It’s great to be back racing after a short break. It was good to have a few weeks to recharge but also work with my engineers to prepare for the next few races. We’ve built up some incredible momentum now, so it’s just about continuing to consistently execute good results from our side," Piastri said.
