Horner tells rivals Red Bull has an 'energy boost' after Verstappen win
Christian Horner has sensed an 'energy boost' within Red Bull Racing after Max Verstappen secured his first F1 race win since the Austrian Grand Prix in June. The Dutchman extended his lead on Lando Norris in the World Championship and the team are over the moon to return to winning ways.
Verstappen started the sprint race from pole position and cruised to victory. The Dutchman was barely challenged throughout. "A real energy boost for the whole team," Horner told Sky Sports. "There's a huge amount of work going into these cars." Sergio Perez finished ninth after a poor qualifying session, just outside the points.
Horner reports the spirits are higher within the Red Bull garage. "It's our first win since June, so it gives everyone a lift. The performance of the car was very strong and Max managed the race beautifully throughout," the team boss continued.
Is Horner concerned by Ferrari?
Red Bull and McLaren were predicted to be the front runners in Austin, but Mercedes and Ferrari are challenging. Horner is particularly impressed by the Italian team. "Ferrari looked very competitive even though they were pushing each other hard. They will be strong in the race tomorrow for sure but if you look at Max's last lap, he managed those tyres well and still had quite a bit of performance in them," Horner said.
