Sergio Perez's father, Antonio Perez, expressed prior to the Mexican Grand Prix his belief that his son will one day become world champion. In qualifying for the Grand Prix in Mexico, the Red Bull driver did not manage to achieve more than P18. Helmut Marko has reacted to Perez Senior's statement after the session.

Perez's father shared his confidence in his son becoming world champion once he has the right resources. At his home Grand Prix, Perez has so far had another dramatic weekend. In the qualifying session in front of the supportive crowd at Mexico, Perez did not manage to go beyond Q1 and will line up in P18 later on today.

Marko appreciates Antonio Perez's optimism

In response to the claims from Sergio Perez's father, Helmut Marko spoke only brifely about his predictions. "I appreciate his father's optimism," Marko told the German branch of Sky Sports.

Perez faced familiar problems during qualifying. "I heard on the radio that he suffered brake problems. We will have to see what was going on there," Marko told Sky Sports.

Despite being understanding about the problems with the Red Bull car, he still expected more from the Mexican driver during his home race. "But the hoped-for revival that we all expected unfortunately did not materialise," the Red Bull advisor admitted.
