George Russell expects fight between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris

George Russell says he expects some "action" to occur between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris at the Mexican Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver will start behind the two title protagonists, and he says you can "bet some money" that the two of them will push each other to the limit once the race gets underway.

Verstappen and Norris have been the two leaders in the drivers' championship battle for the majority of the 2024 season, and it has not come without some battles on track. In Austria, the two of them collided while doing battle, and just last week at the United States Grand Prix, Verstappen forced Norris all the way off the track while defending, which resulted in a penalty for Norris after overtaking and gaining an advantage off track.

At the start of the Mexican Grand Prix, Verstappen and Norris will be close together once again, with the Dutchman qualifying in P2, just ahead of the Brit in P3. The run towards the first corner at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit is also one of the biggest in F1, allowing for a good slipstream that Norris could take advantage of.

Russell expects Norris and Verstappen to do battle

For Russell, he will have a good view of that battle down to the first corner, as he starts on the row behind Norris in P5. Speaking to Viaplay after qualifying, Russell said: "With Max and Lando in second and third, you can probably bet some money there will be a bit of action, one way or another" Russell told us. "I think so, yes. I have a good position [to see the fight]. I'm just going to be relaxing and watch it happen. It's going to be an interesting race. I don't expect us to be in the fight [for victory], but if they battle with one another, we'll see what happens."
