Perez calls for action against Lawson: 'He cost Red Bull points'
Sergio Perez wants Red Bull Racing to speak with Liam Lawson. The Mexican felt Lawson cost Red Bull "a lot of points" after the two drivers engaged in an on track battle during ther Mexican Grand Prix. Lawson is a possible candidate to replace Perez at Red Bull should the team feel the need to make the change.
Perez and Lawson had a fierce battle. There was some contact which damaged Perez's car. In the end, Perez was the last driver to cross the line in Mexico after a failed attempt to pinch the fastest lap point from Ferrari.
Christian Horner, Red Bull's team boss, already warned Perez that "difficult decsions" will have to be made. Perez is contracted to drive for Red Bull Racing in 2025, but doubt has been cast over his future for several months. Daniel Ricciardo was swapped out for Liam Lawson and the New Zealander scored points in his return at the United States Grand Prix. This left Helmut Marko and Horner impressed with the youngster.
Perez not happy with Lawson
Perez and Lawson met on track. The latter didn't want to let Checo simply overtake. Perez has seen Lawson have similar battles before. "Well, he nearly crashed with Fernando last weekend, he nearly crashed with Franco. I think he's just racing everyone out of control at the moment," Perez said.
When the Mexican was asked if Horner and advisor Helmut Marko should have a heart-to-heart with Lawson, Perez initially reacted on the flat, only to clearly express his opinion later. "That's none of my business, it's up to them. But today he cost Red Bull Racing a lot of points, so I think they should speak to him in the regard," Perez concluded.
