Albon sees tension within Red Bull: 'Do you want to race Verstappen already?'
- Estéban den Toom
On paper, Sergio Perez has a contract with Red Bull for the 2025 season. Nevertheless, the Mexican cannot be sure about continuing with his current team at the moment, and meanwhile, VCARB driver Liam Lawson is pushing hard on track to earn a promotion. Former Red Bull driver Alexander Albon commented on the recent developments at the Austrian team.
Liam Lawson replaced Daniel Ricciardo after the Singapore GP this season. According to Albon, the driver from New Zealand is in a good position at the moment. "I think Liam's in a win-win [situation]. I feel like worst case scenario he's in an RB. In my head, do you need to jump into the main team that quickly against Max? From my experience, it's not a bad thing to spend a couple of years learning your craft a bit more," the Williams driver began.
Albon sees pressure within the team
"Of course there's the opportunity and if you're going to have the opportunity, you have to take it. There's clearly a bit of pressure, I would say, between the RB drivers to get that seat. I think you feel that a little bit, I see it in the races, I see it in the moves," Albon explained.
Red Bull have previously indicated that the decision about their driver line-up will be made after the season ends in Abu Dhabi. Apart from Sergio Perez and Lawson, Williams driver Franco Colapinto is also believed to be a candidate for the seat.
