Several Formula 1 teams have had to make an adjustment following a new technical directive [TD] from the FIA. This is intended to prevent a 'trick' that was said to reduce the wear of the skid blocks under the floor of the F1 cars. Helmut Marko assures that the new measure will not affect Red Bull Racing and will not have any effect on the RB20's performance.

With three F1 races remaining in the 2024 Formula 1 season, the FIA has intervened through a new technical directive (TD). Several teams were said to have found a trick to reduce wear on the skid blocks, allowing the car to run lower without the plank under the floor wearing too much. However, that should now be a thing of the past.

Initially, there was speculation that Red Bull had raised this with the FIA, but the governing body denied this to GPblog. According to the FIA, Red Bull was actually one of the teams that did use it. Marko said in the Las Vegas Strip Circuit paddock that Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez will not be affected by the TD in anyway.

Will the new FIA TD affect Red Bull?

GPblog asked Marko about the new TD. "That's not our problem. Our problem is to setting up the car," he said. The 81-year-old Austrian had a firm response when asked if Red Bull would notice any effect from it. "That doesn't affect us."

Ferrari was named as the team that would be most affected by the new directive, although no major difference in performance is expected. Marko also does not see other teams being affected by the change so far. "At the moment, we didn't see that," said the external Red Bull adviser.
