Verstappen overwhelmed by his own success: 'Didn't think it was possible'

Max Verstappen is left overwhelmed after securing his fourth Formula 1 World Championship. The Dutchman admitted he never thought four World Championships would've been possible. Speaking immediately after the race, the Red Bull driver reflected on a more challenging season compared to the 2023 season.

Verstappen completed one of the most dominant seasons ever in 2023, and looked to continue that run in 2024 with two wins at the start. He continued winning but it became a bit more challenging midway through the season.

How Verstappen reacted to his fourth World Championship

"It's been a long season. We started off amazing, cruising almost. We had a tough run, but as a team, we kept it together. We kept working on improvements and pulled it over the line. Incredibly proud of everyone for what they have done for me. To stand here as a four-time world champion, I never thought it was possible," Verstappen said.

Norris never really got close to Verstappen, but did threaten a challenge. The McLaren driver had the faster car for much of the season, and could've scored a lot more points. "I'm just feeling relieved in a way but also very proud. It was a very challenging season. As a person, it's challenging. Had to be calm. I enjoyed last season a lot, but this season taught me a lot of lessons. That makes it very special and a beautiful season," Verstappen added.

"It's amazing to see the fans everywhere. They got spoilt last year with all the wins and they had to wait. We've [with Red Bull] been though a lot together, the high we have now is very special. They are pushing flat out to fight for a title. To do that four times in a row is very special," Verstappen said before predicting a "proper battle" in 2025.
