Giedo van der Garde enjoyed Max Verstappen's race in Qatar. At first, things initially did not go well for the 27-year-old driver, but suddenly things improved for Red Bull during qualifying and the race. Incidentally, the 39-year-old analyst found the penalty for Verstappen after qualifying in Qatar ridiculous.

"I did think Max was just strong again, man. This is incredible. That guy goes all out in Las Vegas, becomes champion there, celebrates a fat party with all the trimmings, and then goes on to Qatar. Then you have one of those sprint races that goes nowhere, and then suddenly you manage to turn it all around. You qualify on P1 AND win that race," Van der Garde said at DRS: The Race Show.

Van der Garde, who previously spoke about George Russell's action, also addressed the Dutchman's penalty in detail. Because of that penalty, Verstappen started from second place on the grid on Sunday instead of first. "Ridiculous action. If it had been on a fast lap, you should have given a penalty," the former driver explained.

Van der Garde on Verstappen's start

Despite Verstappen having to move back a spot on the grid and Russell being able to start from pole position, the Red Bull driver still won the race. At the start of the Qatar Grand Prix, Verstappen was soon next to the Mercedes driver. "You know it too. Max is thinking: 'F*** you, I'll show you how to start'. Let's go!"
