Abu Dhabi Provisional Grid | Verstappen P4, Hamilton P16, Leclerc P19
- Estéban den Toom
Lando Norris and Ocar Piastri will start from the front row tomorrow, with Carlos Sainz lined up P3. Nico Hulkenberg was handed a three-place grid penalty and will start the race in P7, moving Max Verstappen up one spot from P5 to P4 on the grid.
Not only does Hülkenberg move back a few places, but Charles Leclerc also falls down the order. The Monegasque made a mistake in qualifying which knocked him out in Q2, but prior to the weekend it was already known that he had to take a 10-place grid penalty when he exceeded the allowed number of energy stores to be used during a full F1 season. This puts him at the very last row of the Formula 1 grid for tomorrow's race.
Sergio Perez will start on the fifth row of the grid when the five red lights go out in the Middle East. Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton had a dramatic qualifying session, being knocked out in Q1, after having finished P18, but may move up to 16th due to Leclerc's grid penalty. With the front row lockout, McLaren have great chances of securing the 2024 Constructor's title on Sunday.
