Kevin Magnussen's career in Formula 1 has ended as of last Sunday. Prior to that, the Dane announced he had signed a contract with BMW to be one of its factory drivers. This Thursday it has been announced which racing class he will be representing the German manufacturers in: The World Endurance Championship.

Magnussen will race in #18 hypercar, in representation of BMW, accompanied by teammates Raffaele Marciello and Dries Vanthoor. In BMW's other car, #20, same as last season, Rene Rast, Sheldon van der Linde and Robin Frijns will be at the wheel. Both cars will also be in action at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Magnussen, however, is also set to drive in a few races in the United States based IMSA championship, in Daytona, Sebring and Road Atlanta. Robin Frijns will also drive these races. The 24 Hours of Daytona takes place in January, so Magnussen has very little time off after having finished his F1 season last Sunday.

How Magnussen joined BMW

In Abu Dhabi Magnussen revealed to, among others GPblog, how he landed a seat at BMW. "I spoke to Vincent Vosse, the team owner at WRT, the team that runs the BMW's. I've known him since I was a little kid. He once saved my life when I was two years old, in the swimming pool at his home in Spa, because I jumped into the pool. I couldn't swim. He was wearing a suit, dressed up for a gala he was going to. He jumped in the pool, ruined his day, but hopefully I can make up for that now. The contact has always been there," Magnussen said.
