Lawson wants to learn from Verstappen: 'By then I want to compete with him'
According to Christian Horner, Max Verstappen's teammate has the toughest job in F1. In 2025, that role will be held by youngster Liam Lawson, who only has 11 Grands Prix weekends to his name in F1. The driver from New Zealand realises himself that he will have to learn a lot from his Dutch teammate, something he looks forward to.
As a result, Lawson has a simple goal he wants to achieve in the 2025 season. Maximise his results while improving, so he could help Red Bull Racing to the constructors' world championship. He is also looking forward to learning from the now four-time world champion, Max Verstappen.
"This guy is the best, he’s won the last four championships, he’s looked at as the best F1 driver in the world. I get to take his data from every single session, every practice, qualifying, race, I get access to everything, to see exactly how he does it. There’s nobody better to learn off," Lawson, who wants to be able to compete with the Dutchman by the end of next season, explained to The Times.
Lawson no longer looks at social media
Early this week, it was officially announced by Red Bull Racing that Sergio Perez will be replaced by Lawson. That decision did not go down well with the Mexican's fans, with many criticising Lawson on social media. The young driver has decided not to care about these aforementioned posts at all.
"You do the prep for F1 to be ready as a driver, and then you don’t really expect that kind of stuff, or you don’t really prepare for it, because you’re just focused on driving," the New Zealander concludes.
