Martin Brundle, perhaps the best-known F1 commentator since the late great Murray Walker, with whom he also shared a booth, has been made OBE (Order of the British Empire) according to Britain's 2025 New Year's Honours list. The 65-year-old Briton is being celebrated for his long-standing achievements in motorsport and sports journalism.

Brundle has been sharing his insights into the world of F1 racing for almost three decades, with himself being a former Grand Prix dirver who started in 158 races, and although he didn't manage to win a single race, he did visited the podium on nine occasions, and scored as many as 98 points throughout a career that spanned 12 seasons and during which he raced for a total of 8 teams. He also won the legendary 24 hours of Le Mans in 1990 driving for Jaguar, with whom he also won the Daytona 24 hours and the 1988 World SportsCar Championship.

The British driver turned journalist after his retirement and took over the commentating booth alongside Murray Walker in 1997 for ITV, until the British broadcaster lost the rights to the BBC in 2009. The now 65 year old Brundle has been in the media business for close to 30 years.

Distinction for Horner in 2023

With this award, Brundle joins a select group within the motorsport world. Just this year, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner was appointed CBE, one rank higher than Brundle's OBE. Horner received his award at Buckingham Palace earlier this month.
