Verstappen explains anger by frustrating race: 'Everything went wrong'
Max Verstappen may have become champion in 2024, but it was not an easy season for him. On many weekends, the Dutchman struggled with the car. In Hungary, this was also the case. There, he even got into an argument over the radio with his engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase. In the Viaplay documentary ' Lion Unleashed 4', the four-time champion talked about the tricky weekend in Hungary.
During the race in Hungary, emotions ran high for Verstappen. He constantly complained about the balance of the car and reacted angrily during some 'complicated' communications between him and his race engineer, Lambiase. After Verstappen came into contact with Lewis Hamilton, he called his British rival out for "moving under braking," to which Lambiase responded by saying it was "childish" to talk about it over the radio. Team principal Christian Horner stated afterwards that that comment was not directed at Verstappen but at other teams complaining on the radio.
Verstappen on frustrating race in Hungary
Speaking about this weekend, Verstappen said: "It was a super frustrating weekend. We arrived with a lot of updates, and they didn't really do much in terms of pure performance. We couldn't really extract it, and then the race itself also didn't go well. Everything that could go wrong went wrong, and that was super frustrating."
Verstappen continued, "And definitely coming out of that weekend, we chatted a lot about it internally between everyone. And I think it was good because we said what was on our minds, and we moved forward from that and worked well together." Later in the season, despite the disappointing car, Verstappen still managed to win in Brazil and Qatar, securing his fourth world championship with two races yet to go at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
