The 2024 F1 Brazil Grand Prix was a key moment for Max Verstappen on his way to his fourth Formula 1 title. There, the Red Bull Racing driver eventually managed to win in the rain through several impressive overtaking manoeuvres. Verstappen has since looked back on that race at Interlagos with a smile on his face.

The odds were not in Verstappen's favour prior to the race. The Dutch driver had to start the race in P17 due to an unfortunate combination of a dramatic qualifying session in which a red flag prevented him from starting any further up than P12, and an engine part that had to be replaced. Although the odds were stacked against him, Verstappen managed to impress like never before. On intermediates in the rain, the World Champion drove to first place, won the race and dealt the final blow to Lando Norris and McLaren, who were still under the illusion that they had a chance at the Drivers Championship.

Verstappen looks back on masterclass in Brazil

In the documentary Verstappen: Lion Unleashed 4 by Viaplay, the now four-time world champion looked back on one of the best races of his career. Verstappen said that from the start, momentum fell his way. "As soon as the lights went off, I dropped the clutch and there was no wheelspin on cold tyres. Around me there were a lot of drivers with wheelspin. So I can accelerate up to them. In turn 1 I already kept two places and after that two from the outside. It was great," Verstappen said.

Later, Verstappen spoke about his best overtaking moves during the race. According to the Dutch driver, the overtake on Lewis Hamilton was the most important, but the best was against Oscar Piastri. "The first one was crucial on Lewis in turn 1," Verstappen stated. "And the one I enjoyed the most, was the one actually on Piastri. They were our championship rivals from the team," the four-time world champion concluded.
