On Friday afternoon, the sad news broke that Formula 1 photographer Peter van Egmond had passed away. Van Egmond was a familiar face in the F1 paddock for many years and was deeply respected and loved by those within the sport. Max Verstappen, in particular, shared a heartfelt tribute to the photographer on Instagram, remembering him fondly.

Over the past few decades, Peter van Egmond became an indispensable figure in the world of Formula 1. As a photographer, he attended more than 550 races, capturing countless iconic moments. Sadly, during the last season, he was unable to work due to being terminally ill.

Max Verstappen knew Van Egmond well, having worked alongside him for many years. As the four-time world champion continued his career with Red Bull Racing, Van Egmond was the team’s photographer. After Van Egmond announced that he had completed his treatment, Verstappen shared heartfelt words about the man he had worked with for so long, speaking warmly in an interview with Viaplay.

After it was announced that Van Egmond passed away on Thursday at the age of 68, Verstappen left a message for the beloved photographer on Instagram. The Dutchman said, "R.I.P. Peter. A true legend of our sport and, above all, a great person."
