Max Verstappen had to fight hard for his fourth world title in 2024. One of the defining moments of his championship campaign came at the Brazilian Grand Prix, a race that stood out as one of, if not the most important of the season. Tom Coronel, Giedo van der Garde, and Christijan Albers all expressed their admiration for Verstappen's performance, with the trio still impressed by what he achieved there on Viaplay's F1 Annual Review. They all agreed that Verstappen’s drive in Brazil was a key moment in securing his title.
"In the rain, Verstappen just knows where to feel the grip. It's really incredible. He drives lines that nobody else drives. He does things no one else does. Lando Norris started from pole, Max seventeenth. And in the end, Max wins it. That's when you know, as Lando Norris, you're thinking: 'Forget it,'" Coronel began.
After the race, Norris suggested that Verstappen's victory was down to luck, not talent. Christijan Albers responded, "Luck also has to be created, they sometimes say, with the safety car. But after that, he really did show that he was just the fastest on the track."
Verstappen's win at the Brazilian Grand Prix gave him a significant lead over Norris, who finished in sixth. Although the championship wasn’t officially decided until Las Vegas, Giedo van der Garde remarked, "He definitely decided the title there. I think he also dealt the final blow to Lando there."

Max drove superbly in the rain, of that there is no doubt, and nothing can be taken away from his performance. However, the rule that work can be done under a red flag needs to be revised. This rule does bring a lot of luck into the equation and turns the race into a lottery.
I don't think it would have made a difference IMHO, Max the would have caught up with the front even without the red flag "free stop". Generally speaking, I'm conflicted about that rule. I like the strategic considerations component that makes teams taking risks or not. It makes races, that otherwise would be boring, more interesting.
Hi MS. Happy new year and all the best for 2025. I am all for for strategic decisions, but not in favor of luck playing such a huge role! I concur that Max may have won anyway, but would Alpine have finished 2nd and 3rd?
Why stop there? It's also "lucky" if a full safety car bunches up the field, and the front runners lose the gap that they have built. So before the restart, have a rule that the cars must space out, with the gaps as before. In qualy, it's also unlucky if a driver can't complete his run due to yellow/red flags. Change the rules to eliminate this as best as possible. I am sure you can think of when more "unlucky" cases.
Jeezo, ?...... I'll need to stop reading these Max sycophancy articles first thing in the morning, at least I know how my pregnant wife felt..... : )
