Hugh Bird, who previously worked as Sergio Perez's race engineer throughout many seasons, will no longer retain that role at Red Bull Racing. With the Mexican leaving the team, Bird will also leave the team's pit wall. Not the team however, as he now has a new position within the Austrian squad.

With immediate effect, Bird is now working a Suspension Group Team Leader at Red Bull Racing, GPblog understands. That position does not require him to be present at every Grand Prix weekend, although he will surely travel to some in 2025. Last year, Bird already missed events towards the end of the season due to being on paternity leave.

Shifts at the top of Red Bull Racing

Bird's farewell at the pit wall comes as no surprise. A small reshuffle has taken place within Red Bull Racing in recent weeks. For instance, Richard Wood, who guided Perez through already at Grands Prix as Bird's temporary replacement has been appointed as Liam Lawson's race engineer.

As GPblog reported months ago, Max Verstappen's race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, has become Head of Racing. Jonathan Wheatley, the sporting director, has since left. His duties are now partly taken onver by Lambiase, while Steve Knowles also does part of the job.

Verstappen need not fear that Lambiase will have less time for him. The British engineer will continue to support the four-time world champion from the pit wall in  the 2025 season too.
