After the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel quit Formula 1. It has now been two full seasons since the four-time world champion has driven a race. Rumours of a comeback have been around from time to time, although these usually involve an entry into endurance racing.

A year ago, Vettel did a test for Porsche, which suddenly sparked rumours that the German would compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans on behalf of the manufacturer. It did not materialise for the 2024 edition, but in the run-up to the 2025 race, Vettel is once again being linked with a Porsche seat for the legendary race.

Porsche's top executive informed at the end of '24 that Vettel was still an option for the WEC team preparing for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. However, it is still unclear whether it will actually come to be. For instance, Thomas Laudenbach, Porsche's motorsport boss, said recently, "I don't know."

'This world champion will drive at Le Mans'

Porsche still has a spot left for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in one of its three bolides. According to Sportscar365, Pascal Wehrlein is the leading candidate to fill that spot. Wehrlein is reigning world champion in Formula E. In the past, the German competed for Manor and Sauber in Formula 1.
