FIA rings alarm bells
In Madrid, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem talked about various topics. First, the federation's President shared his thoughts on Johnny Herbert no longer being a steward, after the FIA released a statement that his role was incompatible with also being a media pundit. Then, Ben Sulayem also explained that there will be 'new blood' added, with a new intake of six new race directors and six new stewards.
Ben Sulayem also talked about the abuse present in motorsport and Formula One. A report conducted by the UAOA (United Against Online Abuse) pointed out that as many as 75% of the drivers had to deal with threats on social media. "UAOA’s work in 2025 will be critical in fostering collaboration across the sporting, political, and technology sectors to create meaningful, lasting solutions that protect all members of our community," the FIA President underlined.
He also revisited the topic of swearing, saying: "They are our ambassadors and must send clear messages, avoid such behaviours, and set an example. We cannot allow them to use 'swear words' as they must respect the FIA."
