Red Bull talent Lindblad fails to win New Zealand GP but seals F1 licence
Arvid Lindblad finished his final race weekend in the Formula Regional Oceania championship without a win. For the Red Bull Racing super-talent, it was his first race weekend without a win, but he does go home with the title, as well as enough points for his super licence.
Lindblad fails to win in final New Zealand race weekend
Lindblad had to beat Will Brown and Zack Scoular in the New Zealand Grand Prix at Highlands Motorsport Park in the final weekend of the season. Race one and two did see Lindblad fail to win, but grabbing a podium in the first race was enough for the 17-year-old Briton to secure the title.
Lindblad achieved everything he had travelled to Oceania for: the championship title, and with it, 18 points added to his racing licence, meaning he has enough points to apply for his super licence at the FIA, provided the governing body grants him dispensation due to his age.
In principle, he is not allowed to get into an F1 car until after his 18th birthday in August, but it is expected that Red Bull will want to take advantage of the 2024 rule change to allow Lindblad to compete in Formula 1 even before August. Once in possession of his super licence, Lindblad may not only make an appearance during free practice sessions, but he can also act as a test and reserve driver.
