Lindblad the new Verstappen? 'I don't get upset about that'

- Ludo van Denderen
Arvid Lindblad will be the star of Formula 2 next season. If the British talent makes his debut in Formula 1 in exactly one year's time, it should come as no surprise, that is how much confidence Red Bull Racing has in their pupil. Lindblad himself does not hide his ambitions: "I want to become world champion."
Arvid Lindblad was wearing a Red Bull cap, even though it was a private Zoom session where no photos could be taken. Pepe Marti, who is also part of the Red Bull Junior Team and Lindblad's teammate in Formula 2 at Campos, was not, so it must have been the British talent's own choice.
Perhaps it is somewhat far-fetched, but secretly, it showed Lindblad's commitment to the Austrian team, which sees him as an absolute star for the future. He is only seventeen but already destined to become the new Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing. Not everyone could handle the pressure that comes with.
Lindblad more mature than his passport lets on
But Arvid Lindblad can. He seems like a youngster who is set in his ways. Where some peers in the sport appear somewhat pale, or shy, the Brit looks older than his passport lets on. His outspokenness is another example of this. As GPblog asks him, for example, how he deals with the pressure of being the new Max, he says: "You go straight in there with the question, that wasn't much yeah… filled up with that"
Next, Lindblad says he does not care what the outside world says and thinks. "I'm very focused on myself. I want to be in Formula One. I want to be world champion. And, yes, recently there's been a little bit more noise."
I don't really let it bother me because I'm able to sort of block it out, but I don't think it really has any impact on me, when I'm sort of with the team, when I'm in the car."
Lindblad says there are both positives and negatives to the huge attention there is on him at the moment. "It's good that there's this awareness, the sort of thing, I'm getting recognised. But then like you say, yes, there is added pressure, but I feel like I've got a really good team of people around me, so it doesn't really bother me at all. And, yeah, just looking forward to getting the F2 season started." Lindblad states.
