Max Verstappen does not place himself as a candidate for the 2025 drivers' world championship, at least for now. According to the Dutchman, the RB21 still has issues the team need to fix. On the other hand, he has an idea about who the favourites are.

Team with 'nice colour' are the favourites

At a press event in Zandvoort, that Verstappen joined from Monza, the Dutchman explained the issues still present in the RB21, after a challenging second half of the previous campaign with the RB20. According to the driver, there is a clear favourite at the moment who rises below the rest.

"At the moment one [team will compate for the title]," he began to GPblog among others. While Verstappen did not say the team's name out loud, but it was clear he referred to McLaren, the defending constructors' champions. "But that, yes, [that team] does have a nice colour. It's a nice colour in itself, of course."

'Ferrari and Mercedes also looking to catch up'

Previously, Verstappen already mentioned where he insists his team needs to work on to get to the front again. That is also not only the case for Red Bull, but for Ferrari and Mercedes as well, he continued. "There are, of course, other teams that still want to improve. But at the moment it is one team that is clearly in front," the Dutchman explained.

Verstappen will begin his title defence in order to claim his fifth world title, and to match Michael Schumacher record of winning five times in a row, in Melbourne next weekend. The grid seem to travel to Australia with the verdict of the Woking-based team being the favourite entering the 2025 campaign.
