Max Verstappen on media sessions Formula One Melbourne

Verstappen sarcastic ahead of Melbourne: 'I really like that!'

7 March at 20:00

Next week, the Formula One circus travels to Melbourne, where the 2025 season opener is scheduled. Before the corona pandemic, the Australian Grand Prix was traditionally the first race of the season, but since 2021 that duty had landed on the Bahrain Grand Prix. Now the race at the Albert Park Circuit is back to its familiar spot on the calendar. Max Verstappen is especially looking forward to one specific day - at least, if you see through his cynicism.

It should be no secret that Red Bull Racing's reigning world champion does not exactly look forward to the media sessions during Formula 1 weekends. At a Viaplay press event in Zandvoort, Verstappen was asked what his upcoming days look like in relation to the upcoming Grand Prix in Melbourne. Giedo van der Garde asked him when he would fly there.

Verstappen is not looking forward to Thursday in Melbourne much

"Monday, so in itself a fine time. Then you arrive on Tuesday, then you can sleep fine. And then Wednesday a bit of sports, a bit of media stuff, unfortunately," Verstappen explained joining a call in Zandvoort, where GPblog was present. "You like that so much, don't you?" asked Van der Garde to the 27-year-old driver. "Yes, I do like that," he then responded sarcastically.

Formula 1 fans in the UK can set their alarm clock next weekend, as Sunday's race starts as early as four in the morning. Thehe first free practice sessions on Friday and Saturday start as early as 1:30am. All sessions of the Australian Grand Prix weekend can be followed via GPblog's liveblog, and you can keep of course stay up to date with the latest news.
