Verstappen looks back with pleasure: 'It's been very special'
After the 2026 event, the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort will no longer be on the F1 calendar. Only two more races will be held at the circuit in the Dutch dunes. During a press event with Viaplay in Zandvoort where GPblog was present, Verstappen shared his outlook on racing at the iconic track.
Zandvoort, which was mostly known for its good atmosphere, made its return back in 2021 to Formula 1. Now, fans can still enjoy two action packed Grand Prix weekends, however, the Dutch track will disappear from the calendar after the 2026 event.
Verstappen on racing at Zandvoort
"When I look back to ten, 11 years ago, of course I never expected this. Having your own 'home' Grand Prix is of course very special, but if you then also manage to win it... Of all the experiences and victories I have had so far, that has been very special. Of course it's very unfortunate then, but I also understand it," Verstappen explained to media, including GPblog, later adding that there are still quite a few things to improve before the new season that starts next week.
The Red Bull Racing champion looks back with pride on racing at Zandvoort. "I think we should just look back at a lot of great years, a very special circuit and a very special atmosphere, which other Grands Prix have learned a lot from." Verstappen won at Zandvoort three times on the trot in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Lando Norris's MCL38 proved to be too fast for the RB20 in the 2024 edition.
