Is Susie Wolff really running against Ben Sulayem for the FIA Presidency? Toto asnwers!
This year the FIA's presidency, a role currently held by Mohammed Ben Sulayem, will undergo its traditional election process which takes place every four years. After openly welcoming challengers to his re-election bid, rumours popped up in the media recently, linkin F1 Academy's Managing Director, Susie Wolff as a potential candidate, now her husband, Toto Wolff clears the air regarding his wife's alleged aspirations.
That there is turmoil at the FIA, is clear, with Motorsport UK's Chairman, David Richards CBE, sending a strong worded letter to the governing body where he threatened to take further legal action should the British organisation's inquieries regarding recent FIA actions go unanswered.
In this context, rumours popped up recently linking Susie Wolff to an alleged candidacy to face off current FIA President, Ben Sulayem, in this year's elections. Is there any truth to this rumour according to her husband and Mercedes team principal and CEO, Toto Wolff? He states to OE24: "Not that I know of. Susie is an entrepreneur. Someone started this rumor to create a fuss."
'We have differences with FIA, but agree on inappropriate language row'
While the Mercedes team principal has had his differences with the current FIA president, he also expresses his support on certain matters. "We have our pressure points where we have different opinions. On other things, for example swearing, we are mostly of the same opinion. We are a gentlemen's sport and have a role model effect. The children should not hear our drivers cursing all the time," Toto Wolff concluded.
