Verstappen won't give advice to youngster himself: 'Honestly nothing'
During the press conference for the Australian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen briefly put himself in the shoes of Isack Hadjar, who will drive his first full Formula 1 weekend for Racing Bulls next weekend. For the Dutchman his debut came a decade ago, and as he looked back briefly he also wondered what advice he would give his younger self.
Speaking about all the rookies that are entering the series, the Dutchman says. "it’s nice that there are so many— I’m allowed to say rookies, right? I guess that’s still up for debate—but young drivers getting into Formula One."
"Of course, I’m hoping they stay for a long time. The excitement, also the unknown at the same time, is good. It’s fun to see from my side as well. From the Red Bull pool, seeing young drivers finally getting these opportunities is great. I’m excited to see how they will perform throughout the year and in the coming years."
Verstappen does not want to give youngster advice himself
Being a rookie himself 10 years ago, is there a particular advice Verstappen would have liked to have gotten prior to making his debut?
"No, honestly nothing. It's important to make your mistakes and of course feel that excitement at that moment, because if I had told him then what he would achieve in sport would achieve, then it's pretty boring to know what's in front of you, right? You have to have that uncertainty. You have to feel the pressure to perform in that moment, trying to work your way up to a top team. All these things. So no, nothing," the four-time world champion concluded.
