Fernando Alonso becomes the latest victim at a manic Australian Grand Prix, losing control of his Aston Martin and bringing out the safety car as a result of his heavy crash, With that being the case, the first pit stops were completed, moving from wet to dry tyres as the race takes its next turn.

Alonso spins out and brings out safety car

After Isack Hadjar, Jack Doohan and Carlos Sainz all crashed out before just one lap of the Australian Grand Prix, just after the halfway stage, the experienced Alonso could not deal with the slippery nature of the Albert Park circuit, with just a sliver of his wheel touching the outer part of the circuit which was enough to see him spin out of control and crash into the barriers.

As a result, the heavy crash ended the Spaniard's race, and that brought out the second safety car of the race. But with that stoppage of racing action, it resulted in the first round of pit stops.

Those pit stops saw all teams, apart from the two Haas drivers, changed onto the dry tyres, with the mediums and hards being the chosen tyres. However, afterwards, the McLarens were told over the team radio that there may be a bit more rain coming up for a lap or two.
