Brown collected after Norris' win: 'Saw that happen to Verstappen'
The Australian GP was nearly a perfect one for McLaren in Australia. For most of the 57 laps, they were in a one-two position, but after Oscar Piastri's spin, he fell back. Still Lando Norris claimed victory ahead of Max Verstappen, leaving CEO Zak Brown satisfied.
When rain began to fall in the final period of the session, McLaren reacted instantly, and by the time the Safety Car came out, Norris was once again in P1. Therefore, Brown could only praise his squad. "Unbelievable drive. The team called a perfect strategy in very difficult conditions. I feel terrible for Oscar. They both came up on the rain at the same time and Lando collected it up. The team did a great job, everyone back at McLaren have built a proper race car."
Brown: 'We saw that with Verstappen too'
After winning the constructors' championship in 2024, McLaren are aiming to do the double and defeat Max Verstappen for the drivers title. Still, no matter how quick the McLaren car looks, given Verstappen's situation the previous season where he had defend his lead during the latter stages of that campaing, Brown does not want to get carried away just yet.
"It looked good, but this is one track, one race. Let's see what happens in China. But we have started the season strong. We saw last year Max won the first seven races, then had a drought so we just have to keep doing what we are doing. We know how quickly things change in this sport, we just need to make sure we keep developing but that's what everyone at McLaren has done in the last few years," the American CEO explained.
