Mistakes have helped Verstappen to mature
Max Verstappen has shown a more mature side to his racing in 2019 and the Red Bull Racing driver admitted: "You have to make mistakes before you get better".
Verstappen is currently fourth in the Drivers' Championship and has delivered some impressive performances this season including P3 in Australia and Spain. He pushed Lewis Hamilton all the way in Monaco but was eventually demoted to fourth for an unsafe release.
His maturity this season has been highlighted by finishing every race. He has never been beaten by both Ferrari drivers during the 2019 season and Verstappen has beaten both Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel on two occasions.
As quoted by La Presse Verstappen spoke about his development saying: "I've matured, that's true, and not just because of last year's accident.
"I'm getting older, I have more experience in life, but it's also true that sometimes you have to make mistakes before you get better."
Despite his consistency being much improved he's still aware of the gap between Mercedes, Ferrari and themselves.
"Ferrari and Mercedes still have the advantage, but we are closer each race.
"I think we will often be competitive this season," the Dutchman added
