Valtteri Bottas: "In F1 you need to have a plan B"
Mercedes drvier Valtteri Bottas has admitted that sometimes a plan B is necessary in Formula 1 as rumours swirl around about his future at the team, with reserve driver Esteban Ocon in the frame to replace him.
Toto Wolff admitted last week that Bottas and Ocon are the only two drivers in the running to join Lewis Hamilton at the team in 2020, and after another tough race in Hungary for the Finn, it seems Ocon is the favourite for the seat.
Frenchman Ocon enjoyed two successful years at Force India, now known as Racing Point before he made way for Lance Stroll, and was unable to find a race seat for 2019, but kept his options open by becoming Mercedes' reserve driver.
Bottas admits he is aware of the threat to his seat and knows he may need something to fall back on. He said on Sunday night in Hungary: “Of course, when you’re in that situation and you still want to race in F1 you need to have a Plan B and possibly a Plan C.
“For sure I’m thinking about stuff, talking about stuff and it’s good to have different plans. Now we wait.”
