Bottas doesn't expect Hungarian Grand Prix to affect Mercedes contract
Valtteri Bottas doesn't think the Hungarian Grand Prix will change the outcome of his future at Mercedes. The Finnish Formula 1 driver finished the race in P8 after suffering from front-wing damage as a result of contact with Charles Leclerc.
By this time last year, the ink had dried on Bottas' contract extension with Mercedes. Though in 2019, Toto Wolff isn't rushing around. He's got lots on his mind with Esteban Ocon sitting in the garage as well others knocking on the door. But Bottas is desperate for a team decision to be made.
“For sure would be nice to hear some news when the team decides what they want to do,” Bottas told Racefans.
At the start of the season, Bottas flew out of the blocks and won the Australian Grand Prix. In the next few races, he remained in touching distance with teammate Hamilton. But after Hamilton stormed forward with a four-race win streak chances, the Brit leads the F1 world championship by 62 points.
For the race in Budapest, Bottas qualified ahead of Hamilton. But his race was over after the first few exchanges. He doesn't expect this to change the outcome of his future.
“What can I do? I was trying, took a bit of a risk to try and get the lead braking outside of turn one and then just a bit messy in turn two and three. A bit unlucky with the front wing damage, it could have been a different race," continued Bottas.
“I don’t think it’s going to change anything, one race like I said before the weekend. So I’m not really nervous. I’m sure we will know more news very soon.”
