Norris didn't believe F1 shot was real until he was officially told the news
Lando Norris may have already locked down his seat for a second season of Formula 1 driving at McLaren next season but the rookie has admitted he didn't believe he'd be racing in the top division of motorsport until he was officially told the news.
Norris along with George Russell, Alex Albon, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly are apart of the next generation of drivers, rejuvenating the grid as they look to mix it with the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel as well as take on the mantle for the years to come.
With chances in F1 limited Norris admitted he didn't believe it until he was officially told he'd be racing in the pinnacle of motorsport.
"It has always been my dream since I was 13 or 14, but I never really believed it could be. I was good enough to win races and championships, but that is by no means a guarantee,” Norris told RaceFans.
"I only really believed it when it was said that I would get the seat for this season. I also don't know why I didn't believe it, but that just wasn't the case. However, I am not very surprised that it worked, because in the lower categories I have always shown what I can do.
Now I can really show it to Sainz and that is going well, but I think I can still improve a lot."
